Team work makes the dream work 🏆
Another grant bites the dust. Off to an epic 2025 donation garden season. Thank you Beula Dvorak for organizing the bed build team. Thank you Master Gardners of Linn County for all you do in the county for the needs of our communities.
M’s Lawn Care donated in 2024 and this year equipment and a skid loader following bringing over 15 ton of compost to fill this year’s donated beds and top off lasts years.
M's is more than a lawn care service. They tackle snow, debris removal, and tree trimming.
If you need lawn care now or snow removal later please consider patronage of Maurice and his team. He’s a Wellington Heights neighbor and family man who supports growing better community together.
Thanks to the Solid Waste Agency for the donating compost again in 2025.
In 2024, we hosted 125 volunteers who gave over 800 hours to setting up half the beds and growing food. And we grew over a thousand pounds of food. Children and families, disabled, veterans, and elderly were our primary recipients and participants.

Volunteers get first dibs so it pays to help!
Having the remaining beds installed means our goal to ‘grow thousands of pounds of food vertically in a beautiful space’ every year is closer than ever before.
First, we need to secure water sourcing. Garnet from the Master Gardener's who initially thought this a simple task due to city pipes being a part of the space where two house were located would help. So far there is no grant found. We are working on a new list. Stay tuned
For now, an adjustment was made to grow Perennial produce & pollinators in a beautiful space. until water sourcing is secured then Grow 1,000's of vertical pounts in a beautiful space.
Thank you to all our helper friends from 2024, including Master Gardeners, City View High School, Kids in Course from Zach Johnson Foundation, and M’s Lawn Care plus last year Day of Caring businesses chipped in a hand, then.
The combination of 2024 and 2025 partner teams including lots of neighbors made the Peace Corner Community donation garden possible.
in 2025, thank you to M’s Lawn Care Team, Master Gardener’s, and Gina Garrington who secured plants from Jessi Jameson Bruss of Iowa City, and Kid’s on Course whom are visiting twice in June to complete the trim around the perimeter of the garden.
Sad a few neighbors moved who participated. Including a few children featured in the video are relocating this summer. We will miss you.
Happy to greet new friends relocated to the community during the fall, winter, and spring.

One of the highlights of the winter months is dressing as Santa Grinch and giving gifts of rock painting kits to the children who participate in the garden and handing out organic charm pops to neighbors and our postal workers at the Post Office.
The website is sponsored for three more years 🏆 Blogs are beginning again in 2025. You can add your email at the website to have personal delivery to your email to stay up to date.
We’re excited Canva partnered with us, so we can make more videos and have tools to help with the seed to table recipes and show. Plus Little Library Row and other activities. This also supported our team creating media content for M's Lawn Care as a thank you and service to a budding new entrepreneur and business man of Wellington Heights.
There is more to share, but for now it is time to get ready to go to Theissens to apply for a donation for cattle panels to use as trellis's and materials like five gallon buckets to help with rain collection as a temporary solution to water collection until a grant can be secured for city water sourcing. If you know of anyone we can speak to or contact for help on this please contact us at (319) 308-8808 or whcria@mail.com. (not g mail. Just mail).
